FAQ

Are there any restrictions for hiring?
You must be at least 18 years of age and be either a US citizen or permanent resident in order to be hired.

Are call center representative positions part time or full time?
We have both part time and full time positions available however we ask that you commit to at least 30 hours per week on a set schedule.  You may create a schedule for up to 40 hours per week if you would like a full time position.

What is the pay rate?
Our reps start out at the competitive rate of $9 per hour.  After completion of 600 hours, reps will be eligible for a pay increase contingent upon satisfactory performance.  Reps receive another performance review six months after that, and then are eligible for annual performance reviews thereafter, which might lead to additional increases in compensation.

Do you hire in all 50 states?
Currently we are only hiring residents of Illinois, Indiana or Wisconsin.

What hours are available?
The call center is open from 11am – 8pm CST, Monday through Saturday and from 1pm - 4pm CST on Sunday.

Do I work the same schedule each week?
Yes, once your schedule has been established, you will be expected to work the same schedule every week and show up for all of your shifts in full.

Am I allowed time off?
Windy City offers 10 vacation days and 5 sick days per calendar year.  Time off is not paid at this time.

What is the application process?

  2. We will send you a prequalification email and have you run speed and bandwidth tests on your internet connection.
  3. Next we will conduct a brief phone interview.  If selected to continue, you will be scheduled for an in-person interview at our corporate office in Arlington Heights, IL (or Skype interviews for those who live remotely).
  4. Prior to your scheduled interview, we email you the remaining pre-employment tests to complete.
  5. In-person interview with HR.
  6. After your initial interview, the Hiring Team will determine if you will move on in the selection process, which may include an interview with a call center manager.  A job offer is contingent upon a satisfactory criminal background check.

Is there a start-up fee required to become an employee?
Absolutely not!  Be wary of any at-home work opportunities that require you to pay money up front.  This position is a legitimate job opportunity for an established company. 

Will I be an employee or a contractor?
If hired, you will receive a W-2 and be an employee of Windy City Call Center.

Are there benefits?
Working at Windy City comes with many great benefits like a flexible schedule, no commute and a lot of opportunities for advancement.  We do not currently offer health insurance but we do have a 401K plan which employees are eligible for after one year of employment.

What are the opportunities for advancement?
When at all possible, Windy City tries to promote from within.  After 600 hours employees are given a pay increase depending on performance.  After another six months of employment, all employees are eligible for a performance review and they receive another review every year after that.  There are many other positions available within the company including QA specialists, Managers and HR positions.  Whenever an opening is available, all current employees are notified and encouraged to apply.

Do you provide me with a computer?
If hired, you will use your own personal computer to make calls.  All that is required of you is to download the software onto your computer, log in, and you’re ready to go!  A list of computer and internet requirements can be found here.

Do I have to use my own phone?
No!  Our company uses VoIP technology for all calls.  You simply log into the dialer interface and all calls are routed through your computer.  This does not tie up your phone line and there is no call cost for you.  All you need is a headset to get started.

Will I be paid for training?
Yes!  All training for this position is paid at the normal hourly rate.

What will I be doing in this position?
You will be placing outbound calls and taking inbound calls from people who are interested in going back to school.  You will help match them to the schools and programs that are best suited for them.  All calls are made using an automatic dialer which places the calls using VoIP technology through your home computer.

Am I paid by the hour or by the call?
All call center reps are paid by the hour for every hour worked actively taking calls.  There are performance metrics you will be expected to meet but your compensation does not depend on how many calls you make in an hour.

Will I be doing high pressure sales?
Not at all!  We call people to offer help pursuing their education.  If they are not interested, you will simply move on to the next call.
